Located in the eastern Ligurian Riviera, Recco area extends at the mouth of the eponymous river valley, in a small bay of the Gulf Paradise, to the west of the promontory of Portofino between the villages of Sori and Camogli.
The town was badly damaged in the Second World War by bombing from allies between 10 November 1943 to 28 June 1944. According to historical sources of the period, the country was hit twenty-seven times, causing, in addition to the 127 civilian casualties and many wounded, the destruction of more than 90% of the original urban settlement. The primary aim of these bombings was the railway viaduct above the city that with its destruction, also the one present in the municipality tigullino of Zoagli, in fact They isolated the entire territory and the Levante coast from the regional capital.
Recco has always been known and famous for its rich cuisine from time sweet as savory specialties, at the base of some dishes of Genoa and Liguria gastronomy, so much to be defined “gastronomic capital of Liguria”.
Among the specialties of the town are known focaccia with Recco cheese, a specialty that was included in the register of the European food excellence with I.G.P. (Protected Geographical Indication), and which is distinguished by its ingredients and for its centuries-old tradition.
Some other well-known dishes are pansoti, a special paste that goes accompanied with walnut sauce, trofiette, those of Recco, with pesto, corzetti, printed ones, the focaccia with cheese.
