One of the best known seaside towns of the Riviera di Levante in the Golfo Paradiso to the west of the promontory of Portofino. The visitor is struck, first of all, by the lively colors and decorations of the buildings overlooking the old wharf, built by the Republic of Genoa in the eighteenth century. The grandeur of the buildings is about a much more ancient and solid prosperity of the current linked to the tourist flow: Camogli until the last century was not just a fishing village, but also the ship owners are known throughout the world. Of this great past is a curious leftover, the handicraft production of model ships. Fishermen are still many: you can see them at work, for example, follow them by boat to the trap in front of Punta Chiappa; and the second Sunday of May you can enjoy the largest frying fish in the world, prepared in enormous frying-pans for the feast of San Fortunato, patron of the village along with San Prospero. The remains of San Fortunato and some relics of San Prospero are kept in the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the twelfth century on a small promontory which is also the original center of the country.
Alongside is the coeval of the Dragonara Castle, repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt fortification. The Portofino park offers natural resources of rare beauty, such as those that can be seen along the route to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso. Accessible by a trail that passes from the Church of San Rocco, or with the boat service which double the promontory of Punta Chiappa and crosses the Golden haul the eighth century religious complex according to tradition was built to house the remains of martyr San Fruttuoso. The fishing village is much more ancient, dating back to at least the second or third century. In the thirteenth century, the Doria family built the Abbey, in which are buried many members of the noble family. Go diving, you can see the famous Christ of the Abyss, a statue by Guido Galletti lowered into the sea in 1954 in the protection of sailors.
